Here are a few suggestions for how you can get the most from your blog. Tips and Tricks and proven ways to improve your blog traffic, exposure and viability.
Join Online Communities for Food Bloggers!
You have already started doing that by joining The Foodie Blogroll! But there are a lot of other ways to network with other bloggers and get your name out there: Facebook and Twitter are just a few online communities where food bloggers gather!
Post comments on blogs!
Make friends and contacts with people whose blogs you enjoy! When you comment on blogs, other bloggers will see those comments and might come to your site based on your thoughtful comments. Other bloggers will also see that you are making an effort to be a part of the community.
Make your blog looks good.
Emulate those blogs you love! Post beautiful pictures, recipes and anecdotes and people will come back for more.
If you lend a professional air to your blog, people will respect you as an expert and will know that your blog holds valuable information for them and they will come back and tell their friends to visit your blog as well!
Post on forums in your genre.
Since most of you are foodies, that means find forums that are about food and go and post. There are several online communities for foodies, one being right here on The Foodie Blogroll. There are several other food communities to check out as well like Foodbuzz, Food Candy, Epicurious , Slow Food Forum and about.com's Gourmet Food Forum to mention but a few. Do a google search find more and POST POST POST! These forums always allow you to customize your own signature. Make sure you do so and add a link back to your blog!
Go visit Helium.com and Ezinearticles.com
Become a member, write articles, visit the forums and get more visits!
Spread the Word About Your Blog
Make sure you add a link to your blog on all your emails - personal, business or otherwise, as much as you can get away with. The more people you put in contact with your blog, the more visitors you will get to your blog!
Start a newsletter
Does your food blog have a special concentration that might be interesting to others? Do you host giveaways or contests? Spread the word, think about sending a monthly newsletter to everyone in your personal email list. Friends and family love to know what is going on. Encourage them to pass it on to their personal email list.
Study SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
By putting key words in your titles and again in your posts, search engines will be able to find you when people do topic relevant searches. When search engines do their indexing you will come up in a lot more google, yahoo, msn searches, bringing more visitors to your blog through searches.
Get More Exposure on the Foodie Blogroll Website
A food blog that is listed on the Foodie Blogroll is easier to find than a blog that is not part of any community. Anyone searching for food blogs on Google, will come across the Foodie Blogroll in the first page of their search results. Being listed on the Foodie Blogroll, might help users looking for specific blogs find yours.
As for exposure, your blog chances of being found are higher if you do all or some of the following:
Make sure your enter blog tags. These are keywords that will make it possible to find your blog when users search for words related to what your blog is about. Use tags (words) that represent your blog.
Participate in the Forum discussions. This will also get you in touch with other members, growing your network of food blogging friends.
Add Friends to your member profile on the Foodie Blogroll website. Find members that share common interests or whose blogs you like, and send them a Friend request.
Also, by being with the Foodie Blogroll, your blog has a chance (every day) to be featured on the Widget, which would bring a lot of exposure. Every day we feature 5 blogs on the Foodie Blogroll Widget section titled : "Today's 5 Random Blogs". The blogs featured in that sections are selected automatically by our system via a random process. Being featured in the Today's 5 Random Blogs section is entirely a matter of chance.
Have friends vote for your blog, using the Rank Blog button (it can be found on every blog's details page). Later on, we will feature blogs with the highest ratings on the website front page, which should bring even more exposure.
